A controversial researcher

A researcher in my major will hold a conference in his country. But none of researcher I know won't attend it because everybody knows the meeting is kind of advertisement of his product. Indeed he publishes some papers, but they are all controversial. He insists to make his situation going well. He seems to be a president of private company rather than a researcher.
