Skiing

I went to Lake Taho for skiing with my friend. I didn't care about lift ticket fee before, but now I felt it's very expensive. We got there about noon and we stayed just for 4 hrs. It could be the reason. But I still feel it's not worth paying. I paid $300 to get my car fixed yesterday so I should be tight for a while...

Stats

I've studied statistics for my project and tried to learn in English to expand my vocabulary, but it doesn't make sense at all. So I changed my mind to look Japanese websites (I thought it was easier for me), but I still can't understand it at all. Maybe the language isn't the matter...

Junk mails

I got 11 junk mails today. I was so frustrated before, but now I've already got used to them. Actually it's very interesting. 422 junk mails have been delivered to my account since last December, but the senders are all different. Spam filter of mailing service is getting powerful so that is the way to protect themselves.

Apple new computer

The CEO of apple computer Steve Jobs introduced new notebook computer, MacBook Air, the thinnest in the world. His idea is always innovative and looking at next decade. The amazing thing is Apple removed CD/DVD drive from the computer and Steve Jobs says "We don't think users will miss it." He (maybe not apple, only him) is touting the computer as a wireless device. Nobody, except Steve Jobs, come up with such a great idea.

Wii

I had a sukiyaki party with my friends last night. One of my friend brought video game console, Wii, with him and we played virtual sports, such like tennis, golf and boxing. The graphic is more beautiful than other previous video games and it allowed us to enjoy sports easily. Personally I prefer to play real sports. The technology is improving lot at incredible speed and I felt I was really playing boxing (or golf), however, tennis was far from my satisfaction. The variety of shots in the video game are limited and we can't control the players by ourselves. Maybe I feel that because I'm crazy for it. The video game still has a lot to be improved.

Whaling

It seems the government of Australia claims strongly to quit whaling, but I feel that's interference of our culture. Indeed, Japanese government (or IWC) doesn't deal with this issue in proper way because the whaler catch whales for the purpose of research. It's just sophistry and doesn't make any sense. Sounds they want to protect their logic.

Sweeney Todd

I watched a movie, Sweeney Todd, filmed based on a popular musical. The key word of the story was "revenge". A man whose family was devastated start killing people with his straight razor. I think we could appreciate it at live performance because the actors never kill people. But in the movie, the special effect looks everything real and it made me sick. The director should've considered it before film this movie. Actually, this movie is "R" rated...

Wikipedia

I realized Wikipedia is very interesting. My friend asked me about how I feel about whaling, so I was looking the website of both Japanese and English sites to learn and to expand my vocabulary. I realized they are quite different. English site doesn't have enough description about the history of whaling. Maybe they don't want to deal with what they did before. They need to reflect their behavior without criticizing other people.

Power outage

Power outage happened last three days in Davis due to a strong storm. The trees were blew out and broke electrical wires. Fortunately my apartment was ok, but my friend stayed these days without electricity. It's in winter in Davis and she was freezing even she lighted logs in fire place. We appreciated the importance of electrical power in our daily lives.

New year resolution

It's been while since I stopped writing blog (I wonder why I didn't to do that???). Anyway, new year has come and it's good timing to resume that.
Todays topic is about new year resolution. I thought it should be "keep writing blog everyday without skipping it", but I changed my mind because I don't think I can do that. Instead, I decided to clarify "my dream". My dream was to be a scientist when I was high school student, and it came true. I realized I have no dream now. New one could be "having good family with somebody who loves me". I believe it's tough, but it seems that one is not proper as my dream. "Be a great researcher" or "Get good job and make money"? I need some time to think of that. It may determine the way to go for my life.
